google has announced a new set of Gemini-focused benefits aimed at helping college students prepare for the new academic year. The company is offering eligible students up to 12 months of its Google AI plans at no cost, along with new study tools designed to support research, organization and exam preparation.
For eligible college students in the United States, Google is offering one year of Google AI Pro for free. The plan, normally priced at $19.99 per month, includes higher Gemini usage limits, access to Gemini Spark, Gemini integration with applications such as Gmail and Google Docs, and 5TB of storage. Students outside the U.S. can receive one year of Google AI Plus for free, which includes access to Gemini Omni, increased usage limits and 400GB of storage.
Google is also introducing a dedicated Student Hub inside Gemini. The hub brings together student-focused features, including study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes, giving students a central place to organize their learning activities.
One of the key additions is Study Notebooks. Students can upload lecture notes and other class materials, after which Gemini can create a structured study plan. It can also provide diagnostic quizzes, identify knowledge gaps and generate personalized lessons and quizzes. Google says upcoming improvements will add more graphs and images to lessons. With permission, Gemini can also identify important dates from a syllabus and add exams and assignment deadlines to Google Calendar.
For students who prefer visual learning, Gemini’s interactive visualizations can create functional 3D simulations, tables and other interactive elements. Students could, for example, explore DNA in 3D or visualize concepts such as energy transfer and financial cash flow.
Google is also expanding Gemini Live with Deep Research capabilities. Students can ask Gemini to conduct detailed, multi-step research while continuing their conversation or leaving the app. Gemini can work in the background and notify users when the research report is complete.
The Student Hub, Study Notebooks, interactive visualizations and Deep Research in Gemini Live are rolling out to Gemini users, giving students additional AI-powered tools for studying and research as the new academic year begins.
