Start the semester with one year of Gemini, on us

As college students return to campus for a new academic year, Google is introducing a range of Gemini-focused offers and study features designed to help students organize coursework, prepare for exams and conduct research.

The company announced that eligible college students in the U.S. can receive one year of Google AI Pro at no cost, a subscription valued at $19.99 per month. The plan includes higher Gemini usage limits, access to Gemini features integrated into Google apps such as Gmail and Docs, 5 TB of storage and additional services.

For eligible college students outside the U.S., Google is offering one year of Google AI Plus for free. The plan provides access to Gemini Omni, increased Gemini usage limits and 400 GB of storage. Google is also offering a discounted bundle combining Google AI Pro with YouTube Premium for students interested in ad-free music and video streaming.

Alongside the student offers, Google is introducing a dedicated student hub inside the Gemini app. The hub brings together tools including study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes, giving students a centralized place to access Gemini’s education-focused features.

One of the key features is study notebooks, which allow students to upload materials such as lecture notes. Gemini can then organize those materials into a study plan, generate diagnostic quizzes, identify knowledge gaps and create customized lessons. Google says upcoming improvements will add graphs and images to lessons, while Gemini can also help transfer important exam and assignment dates from a syllabus to Google Calendar with the student’s permission.

Google is also expanding interactive visualizations, allowing Gemini to create visual learning experiences such as 3D simulations, tables and interactive models. Students could, for example, explore DNA structures in three dimensions or visualize scientific and financial concepts.

Meanwhile, Gemini Live is gaining Deep Research capabilities. Students can request detailed, multi-step research reports and continue discussing the results conversationally. Gemini can work on the research in the background and notify users when the report is ready.

Google says the student hub, study notebooks, interactive visualizations and Deep Research in Gemini Live are rolling out to Gemini users, positioning the AI platform as a broader study and research assistant for the new academic year.
