xAI Introduces Grok 4.6 With Focus on Long-Running AI Agents and Visual Projects

xAI has announced Grok 4.6, the latest version of its artificial intelligence model, with a stronger focus on long-running autonomous agents, advanced coding and interactive visual projects.

The company said Grok 4.6 builds on Grok 4.5 by improving its ability to handle complex tasks across multiple steps. The model is designed to work on activities such as researching topics, analyzing information, navigating large codebases and transforming broad ideas into functional applications and other digital work.

According to xAI, Grok 4.6 achieves frontier-level performance across several agentic coding and knowledge-work benchmarks. The company said the model scored 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, matching GPT-5.6 Sol on the composite benchmark. Other evaluations showed improvements over Grok 4.5 in areas including coding, software engineering and agent-based tasks.

A major focus of the new model is its ability to sustain work over longer trajectories. xAI said Grok 4.6 can take a broad product concept, research unfamiliar areas, structure an application, implement core interactions and continue refining the result through multiple rounds of feedback.

The company also highlighted improvements in visual and interactive development. Grok 4.6 is designed to produce stronger initial versions of applications and establish their visual structure and design language before continuing with iterative improvements. During longer tasks, xAI said the model has also demonstrated more self-testing and verification, allowing it to check its own work before proceeding.

The model underwent a longer supplemental training process than Grok 4.5, using curated data focused on reasoning, technical concepts, engineering and software development. xAI also trained it through reinforcement-learning tasks covering coding, knowledge work, web development, kernel optimization and computer-aided design.

Grok 4.6 is now available through Cursor, Grok Build and xAI’s API, with additional availability through platforms including OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare. xAI is offering twice the included usage in Grok Build and Cursor during the first week.

API pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, while a faster variant costs twice as much.

With its emphasis on autonomous workflows and extended task execution, Grok 4.6 represents xAI’s latest effort to move AI systems beyond conventional chatbot interactions toward agents capable of completing increasingly complex projects.
