google’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, marking a major milestone for the company’s artificial intelligence ambitions and making Gemini one of Google’s fastest-growing products.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the milestone on X, saying Gemini had become the 14th Google product to cross the 1-billion-user mark. The achievement highlights the rapid adoption of Google’s AI assistant as the company continues integrating Gemini across its ecosystem.
The milestone also puts Gemini on a similar scale to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reportedly reached 1 billion monthly active users in June 2026. However, Google clarified that the latest figure refers specifically to the Gemini app and does not include users accessing Gemini-powered AI through other Google services.
Google has been expanding Gemini across products including Search, Workspace and Android, while its AI features have also gained significant traction in Google Search. The company said its AI Mode in Search has more than 1 billion monthly active users globally, although those users are counted separately from the Gemini app figure.
Usage data shared by Google offers a glimpse into how people interact with the AI assistant. Around 63% of Gemini users reportedly use voice conversations, while the platform now generates more than 150 million images each day, according to the company.
Gemini’s reach is also expanding beyond Google’s own operating systems. The company said the app now has more than 100 million active users on iOS, strengthening its position across competing mobile platforms.
The latest announcement follows Google’s second-quarter 2026 earnings update, when the company reported more than 950 million monthly Gemini users, with daily active users having tripled over the previous year.
Google has also continued developing new Gemini models and capabilities, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, which is designed to improve coding and autonomous AI-agent tasks.
With Gemini now crossing the 1-billion-user threshold, Google faces increasing pressure to convert its enormous AI user base into a long-term advantage as competition with OpenAI and other AI companies intensifies.
